Autism Innovation Fund
MYA Disability Team have recently been successful in a bid to provide IT Technology and assistive technology to support young people on the autistic spectrum to access both SEN and mainstream services. The money will be used to purchase 4 IPAD’s all with 4g capabilities which can be taken around to local centres, schools, family homes for young people to access information about services taking place across the city. We have also purchased an interactive touch screen monitor along with a lectern to be based in the reception of Hanover Street that will host an IPAD preloaded with websites and project leaflets and links to other information portals that will give access to young people to find out more about services in their area. We are also planning on uploading virtual tours of many of our centres over the coming weeks to enable new young people to view the centres that they could be accessing in the future (hopefully)
They will also be funding the purchase of a two year licence for the application “Browse aloud” for our website. We can use Browse Aloud to engage with a much wider audience. It is an innovative cloud-based product that speaks our website content out loud. Spoken and written translations are available in 35 languages and written translations with no speech are available in a further 43 languages. The text on our website can be magnified for those with visual impairments or saved to MP3 to listen at a more convenient time.
Look out for all these fantastic innovations over the coming weeks.
