Who are we?

MYA PMV project 

The Peer Mentoring and Volunteering (PMV) project provides opportunities for disabled children and young people to have complete autonomy, be fully included and by using a buddy system will reduce isolation in local communities.

What do we do?

The Project provides:

  • 12 week peer mentoring projects
  • Access volunteering training programmes
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Youth led issue based project work focusing on:
    •  Confidence and Self Esteem
    • Active listening skills
    • Communication skills
    • Blocks to listening
    • Confidentiality
    • Conflict resolution
    • Empowering others to make informed choices about their lives

The training will consist of a combination of group work, individually completed work sheets, discussion, role play and activities

What are the project aims?
  • To increase participation of disabled children and young people in play and youth facilities across Merseyside.
  • To reduce Isolation of disabled children and young people in their local communities.
  • To increase participation of disabled and non disabled children and young people within local community provision
Who is the project for?
  • Disabled children and young people aged 7 – 19 yrs
  •  Families of disabled children and young people
  •  Schools
  •  Youth Projects
What is the impact?

This project will equip disabled and non disabled children and young people with:

  • Increased skills and confidence
  • Personal and social development
  • Increased access to community services
  • Friendship groups

Social action and volunteering opportunities will:

  • Support community involvement and cohesion
  • Develop work related skills
  • Support voluntary organisations within their community
Where and when does it take place?

PMV Project is best suited for existing groups however individuals can be referred to existing groups.  The project is extremely flexible to the needs of the host school, youth project and youth club. We can deliver Monday to Friday up to 9pm in the evening.
