MYA Counselling

Who are we?

OKUK is the only service that specialises in the delivery of counselling to children and young people affected by substance abuse in Liverpool.We offer appointments within community settings to provide choice and accessibility to the service user.

What do we do?

OKUK offers young people needs lead therapeutic interventions including:

  • Person Centred Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Creative Therapies
  • Brief Therapies
  •  Motivational Interviewing
  • Group work

The project can also offer consultation packages to schools and organisations and bespoke training packages for professionals on a range of issues including substance misuse, emotional health and wellbeing.

We also provide information support for young people to enable access to additional or alternative services that best suit their needs. We are flexible on time and location of planned interventions.

What are the project aims?
  • To offer confidential therapeutic interventions to children and young people aged 10 to 19, who live, work or study in the Liverpool area.
  • To work with clients experiencing the negative impact of substance use, whether this be through their own use, or through the direct effect of other people’s drug or alcohol use (family or friends).
Who is the project for?

Young people aged 10 to 19 from the Liverpool area. Referrals can come from young people, parents, GPs, schools, youth projects and a variety of other sources. Reasons for referral may include issues such as anxiety, drugs, eating disorders, emotional abuse, harassment, depression, bereavement and self harm.

Where and when does it take place?

We accommodate appointments on a needs basis- daytime, evenings and weekends.

We offer sessions in a range of community settings including our city centre base. If a young person wants to be seen outside of their community there are facilities at MYA for this purpose.
